The Mutilator update!
Sourcing the best possible material for a Blu-ray release can often be, by turns, an intensely frustrating and hugely rewarding experience. The Mutilator is no exception - suffice it so say that our search for materials for this title, a bona fide holy grail amongst horror fans, has covered the full gamut of emotions. Our search has taken us from the shores of North Carolina, to a succession of storage places across the US, and finally to the steps of the Library of Congress. But finally, we're happy to report that we have unearthed a FULLY UNCUT, virtually unplayed 35mm print!
Hellraiser III Restoration
In recent days we've received
some communications about the framing on our release of Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth which we would like to address.

3 Women - Press Release
Arrow is thrilled to announce the UK premiere Blu-ray release of Robert Altman’s celebrated classic, 3 Women, the 1977 acclaimed master work that pipped Star Wars to top Roger Ebert’s films of the year on its initial release. Presented in a glorious new 4k digital transfer, this restored dream-like masterpiece of cinema will be available on Blu-ray from 13th July 2015.
The latest
Robert Altman release to come from Arrow Academy (following The Long Goodbye)
this new disc will feature an interview with David Thompson, editor of Altman
on Altman and producer of the BBC’s Robert Altman in England. The disc will
also include an archive interview with Shelley Duvall from the Cannes Film
Festival (where she won the Best Actress Award) in which she describes working
with Altman, his methods and how she started acting.
Rounding off the
disc are image galleries featuring behind-the-scenes photos, the Cannes Film
Festival press conference and promotional shots. The Blu-ray comes with a
collector’s booklet with new writing on the film by film critic David Jenkins
and excerpts from Altman on Altman, illustrated with original
stills.
Synopsis
Maverick
filmmaker Robert Altman continued a stunning run of celebrated work that
included McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The Long Goodbye and Nashville with
3 Women, a dreamy masterpiece that would fend off the titanic Star Wars as
Roger Ebert’s best film of 1977.
Shy and
impressionable Pinky (Sissy Spacek, Badlands, Carrie) strikes up a
friendship with her fellow nurse ‘Thoroughly Modern’ Millie (Shelley Duvall, Nashville,
Thieves Like Us). As the two spend more time together Pinky becomes
dependent on Millie, adopting aspects of her personality and appearance. Things
take an unusual and darker turn as Pinky discovers Millie with a man, a local
bar owner whose wife (Janice Rule) forms the third of the title’s three women.
Based on a
series of dreams and influenced by Ingmar Bergman’s Persona, Robert Altman cut
the deal for 3 Women with Twentieth Century Fox in a matter of
minutes and the remarkable faith of the studio would produce one of the most
striking works of the period.

Nightmare City and the Limits of Restoration
by James White
Jean-Luc Godard famously began his 1967
masterpiece, Weekend, with an opening title card that read: “This film was
found on a rubbish heap.” These words came to mind as I was completing work on
our new restoration of Nightmare City,
the 1980 Italian zombie shocker from Umberto Lenzi. This is a project that’s
presented us with a host of technical problems from that start, and while that
film didn’t arrive on a pile of garbage, the extent of the damage that the
original film elements endured over the past 35 years might have well included
such a scenario.

Sherlock Holmes is the most filmed character of all time – but

from legendary horror studio Hammer and starring genre stalwarts Peter Cushing
and Christopher Lee, which stands as the super sleuth’s finest cinematic hour.
Rising up out of the swirling mists of Dartmoor, Baskerville
Hall stands tall and gloomy. Its occupant, Charles Baskerville, has been found
dead in mysterious circumstances. Could Sir Charles have been the victim of the
so-called “Baskerville Curse”, which tells of a deadly beast that stalks the surrounding
countryside? Unperturbed by the legend, next-in-line Sir Henry Baskerville (a
rare leading man performance from Lee) sets out to Dartmoor to assume
inheritance of the family estate, under the auspices of the famous detective
Sherlock Holmes and right-hand man Dr. Watson (Andre Morell).
Imbued with an atmosphere as thick as fog, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a superlative gothic yarn which
benefits from game performances from Cushing, Lee and Morell, as well as the
expert direction of Terence Fisher, known for helming many of Hammer’s most

Island of Death - Press Release
Arrow
Video is thrilled to announce the world premiere Blu-ray release of cult
director Nico Mastorakis’ shocking video nasty, Island of Death.
Upon its initial release some 40 years ago, this catalogue of atrocities
featured scenes too shocking for the British public and was subsequently
banned. However, this newly restored director-approved edition will debut
fully-uncut on Blu-ray in all its sleazy and lurid glory (or should that say
gory!) from 25th May 2015.
Boasting
a brand new 2K restoration of the film from the original camera negative, this
new director-approved disc will come loaded with a jam-packed 7 hours of bonus
content, including two new featurettes Exploring Island of Death,
in which film historian Stephen Thrower discusses the making of the cult
classic, and Return to Island of Death in which Mastorakis returns
to the original Mykonos locations.
Alongside
this, the new release will feature an archive interview with Mastorakis,
alternative opening titles and five original tracks from the Island of
Death soundtrack. The Films of Nico Mastorakis, a
four-part documentary charting the director’s filmmaking career [Blu-ray only]
and the Nico Mastorakis Trailer Reel [Blu-ray only] round out
the feature-filled package.
In
addition, the Blu-ray comes with a reversible sleeve featuring original and
newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys and a fully-illustrated
collector’s booklet featuring new writing by academic and film historian Johnny
Walker.
Synopsis
Welcome
to Mykonos, the holiday destination of choice for sun, sea and slaughter! From
cult director Nico Mastorakis, Island of Death is a travelogue
of atrocities with scenes so strong that the British Government was once
compelled to ban it as a “video nasty”.
Arriving
on the idyllic Greek island, Christopher and Celia appear to be every inch the
perfect, handsome young couple. Little do the welcoming locals realise that they
are in fact a pair of murderous degenerates, determined to spread their own
particular brand of perversion across the island. DIY crucifixions,
opportunistic bestiality, sexual peeing and murder by all conceivable forms
ensue – including death by makeshift blowtorch, samurai sword, dump truck and
more!
Shocking,
brutal and totally politically incorrect in its outlook, Island of
Death is a gruelling cinematic experience devised by director
Mastorakis to out-do the excesses of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,
which he was hugely inspired by. Now fully uncut and newly-restored from the
original negative, fans can enjoy Island of Death in all its
sleazy, lurid glory.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Miss Osbourne - Press Release
Potent and poetic, mischievous and macabre,
Borowczyk’s film shows how many imaginative worlds the horror movie can open up
when the right artist holds the keys.
Nigel
Andrews, Financial Times
Following unanimous critical acclaim
for their 2014 Walerian Borowczyk retrospective collection, Arrow Video is
thrilled to announce the world premiere Blu-ray release of Borowczyk’s The
Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne, released on dual-format
Blu-ray and DVD from 11th May 2015, marking the first time the film has
been made available commercially since the VHS and Laserdisc era.
Often regarded as Borowczyk’s last
great film, and his only out-and-out horror film, The Strange Case of
Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne features his most culty cast including Udo
Kier, Patrick Magee and Howard Vernon. The disc will be presented with both the
French and English versions of the film, the latter featuring Patrick Magee’s
own voice.
This new release will feature a
restored high definition transfer, an introduction by critic and long-term
Borowczyk fan Michael Brooke and a new audio commentary featuring archival
interviews with Walerian Borowczyk, and new interviews with cinematographer
Noël Véry, editor Khadicha Bariha, assistant Michael Levy and filmmaker Noël
Simsolo, moderated by Daniel Bird.
This new disc will also feature Himorogi (2012),
a short film by Marina and Alessio Pierro, made in homage to Borowczyk,
alongside interviews with Marina Pierro, artist and filmmaker Alessio Pierro
and a video essay by Adrian Martin and Cristina Alvarez Lopez.
Alongside this, the new edition will
also include Eyes That Listen, a featurette on Borowczyk’s collaborations
with electro-acoustic composer Bernard Parmegiani and Happy Toy (1979),
a short film by Borowczyk based on Charles-Émile Reynaud’s praxinoscope. An
introduction to Happy Toy by production assistant Sarah
Mallinson will also be included.
Rounding off the Blu-ray, a new
featurette by Daniel Bird, Returning to Return: Borowczyk and Early
Cinema will also be included, along with the reversible sleeve with
artwork based on Borowczyk’s own poster design. The booklet will include new
writing on the film by Daniel Bird and archive materials, illustrated with rare
stills
Synopsis
It’s the engagement party for
brilliant young Dr Henry Jekyll (Udo Kier) and his fiancée, the beautiful Fanny
Osbourne (Marina Pierro), attended by various pillars of Victorian society,
including the astonishing Patrick Magee in one of his final roles. But when
people are found raped and murdered outside and ultimately inside the house, it
becomes clear that a madman has broken in to disrupt the festivities – but who
is he? And why does Dr Jekyll keep sneaking off to his laboratory?
We know the answer, of course, but
Walerian Borowczyk’s visually stunning adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s
much-filmed tale is crammed with wildly imaginative and outrageously perverse
touches characteristic of the man who scandalised audiences with Immoral
Tales and The Beast, not least the explicitly sexualised
nature of Mr Hyde’s primal urges.

kill him and a young Meiko Kaji (Lady Snowblood) is the girl caught in
